Location Name or Route
Mount Ogden
Comments
Clear evidence of wind effects along the ridgeline on Mount Ogden that can be seen from town. Just one example of how to monitor conditions from a distance. The blue arrow indicates a rooster tail of blowing snow (blowing from right to left in this photo). The red circle indicates a bare patch, a "fetch" zone where snow has been picked up. The red arrow indicates the wind direction, pointing to the location on the leeward side of the ridge where the fetched snow was deposited.
Anyone venturing out into tomorrow's storm will probably have some wind slab to deal with. However, it will likely not be possible to view the snow surface from a distance since visibility will be limited by the weather. Further, it could be difficult to feel wind slab underfoot as it may be hidden beneath the new snow.
