Comments
I hiked to and then eventually snowshoed to well above Lake Blanche. Snow conditions ranged from damp to wet just above the lake to mostly just slightly damp at 9,500 feet. In fact, I found excellent snowshoeing conditions in the pines, especially for late May.
I also found 5-6" of new snow in the area at and below the boulder fields. Some water was visible running in small waterfalls at the boulder field that would then disappear under the snow. Water was also seen running elsewhere on my route.
The new snow was seemingly fairly well bonded w/no sliding observed between the new snow/old snow interface. This will likely be changing rapidly as temps ramp up into the 80's and then the 90's by Friday.
At 4:30 PM sky conditions were overcast w/clouds obscuring the peaks such as Dromedary. Winds were breezy from the west w/temps in the low to mid 30's. Light snow flurries fell occasionally.
