Comments
Headed up Bowman Fork not sure where I was headed, decided to ski the N facing Bowman Springs avalanche path, due to poor visibility. The new light density snow would sluff easily on steeper slopes but the snow was so light they didn't pack much of a punch. In most places the snow seemed well bonded to the old surface, that being said I was on N facing protected terrain which had old damp settled powder underlying it, might have been a different scenario up high in the wind or on slopes with a slippery bed surface. There where a couple of times when it was probably snowing up to 2 inches an hour then some lulls in between. I didnt note any activity other than sluffing, the snow was too low density for slab formation in the terrain covered. I would think the main hazards tomorrow would be density inversions in the new snow and wind slab formation up in exposed terrain. If the sun comes out the new light density snow will become damp rapidly and my produce wet activity.
photos: new snow depth and physical distancing for the foreseeable future
