The snowpack was about as stable as things get. So, nothing interesting there.
What was interesting is the dramatic shift in the people out and about. For one, I don't think I've ever seen so many tracks on the NW face of Red Baldy without a helicopter involved. Second, I saw three yard sale style wrecks through the course of the day, mixed in with about half the population of skiers up there that struggled to link turns in quite good snow. Third, I noticed about a dozen sets of tracks in Lake Chute, none of which went more than half way down the slope. Rather, everyone traversed northward to the ridge instead of riding the lower half to the lake. Finally, there was a single snowmobile track in the uppermost basin that seems to have come over from Tibble Fork.
Truly, an embarrassment of riches... See attached pics.
We skied under the north face of Red Baldy, near one other pair of tracks. Quiet, lovely, and away from the shenanigans. Snow was welded and skied just great.
*Sigh*
