Snow Characteristics Comments
Today we skied mainly windward aspects. Windward slopes were pretty scoured, but in some places the new snow is dense enough to stick to the sun crusts and wind board. In these areas we found good skiing with just enough new snow to keep it fun.

Red Flags Comments
Recent Avalanches: Skier triggered wind slab avalanche today on a north facing slope around 11,000 feet. Right between Talking Mountain Cirque and Middle Snow Cirque, near Lone Pine. Also spotted some fresh debris in upper Tele Gold. Not sure if Tele Gold proper slid, or if it was the slopes above, visibility was really low.
Wind Loading: Yesterday we observed North and East faces NTL and ATL being actively loaded. Winds continued to howl over night and all throughout today. More snow was drifting today and these slopes continued to load.
Cracking: Isolated cracking beneath our skis in wind drifted snow, no shooting cracks observed today.
Poor Snowpack Structure: Old news here, but weak faceted snow still exists on shady slopes BTL, NTL. We are now seeing wind drifted snow on top of this weak structure.

Problem #1 Comments
Yesterday in our travels we observed plenty of drifting snow. We found even more wind drifts today. After skiing Goldminer's we made our way into Talking Mountain Cirque. We wanted to ski looker's left of El Pinche, where we assumed there would be less drifted snow. However there was a large party skiing in there so we went looker's right of El Pinche and quickly found ourselves on top of a big fat wind slab. Probing down with a ski pole in some places there would be a firm crust below the slab, and in other places we felt weak sugar snow as deep as our pole would go. We went up a little ways, but as soon as the slope got steeper we became uncomfortable and bailed. Nice snow in the low aprons over there, but most of Talking Mountain Cirque is loaded up right now. We headed back to the cabin tree zone for safer skiing. On our exit we talked to a large party that triggered a wind slab avalanche near Lone Pine. Pictures below and details will be in the avalanche ob. Wind drifted snow will still be a problem tomorrow NTL and ATL NW through E. These drifts can be more than a foot deep in places.
Comments
These photos of the avalanche were shared with me by the party that triggered the slide. One skier took a ride and was not hurt. No one was buried and everyone is ok. The last photo is some large graupel we found pooled below the cliffs in TM Cirque.
