Comments
Not a lot new to report out there. Crossed all types of snow surfaces, from wind buffed terrain to solar crusts. On high N, NW and NE facing terrain we were still able to find some good snow. A combination of snow that hadn't seen the effects of wind or sun, as well as large grain graupel sitting on the surface in many areas. In areas of exposure, be wind or sun, the graupel pools were harder to find, but in protected terrain features, it made for some good skiing.
On a North facing aspect on a sub ridge below the Trichutes around 9800' we were able to find the dickens crust still very much intact. It was about 30cm down, and 2-5cm thick. Below the dickens crust, we found a lot of faceted snow growing below the dickens crust. This snow was sugary and weak and would be interested to see if this weak snow is more widespread or isolated to the specific terrain feature we were traveling on. No slab on top of the dickens, but something to think about in the future.
