Sunny and warm, though not quite as hot as yesterday (20200222). Winds were definitely out of the northeast, but generally light at mid elevations with the occasional moderate breeze.
Snow Characteristics
Snow Characteristics Comments
Not much different from yesterday's observations. However, the February 7 crust is starting to deteriorate in some low and mid elevation locations on the northerly aspects. The crust is reducing in thickness (only 1-2cm thick in spots) and hardness as well. Whereas the crust might have required a shovel blade or at least a ski pole to penetrate previously, I was able to punch through it with my index finger today. There is still well preserved graupel underneath, and the snow above is the sugary dry powder characteristic of metamorphism from clear skies and daily temperature swings. Will be interesting to see how much longer we go without significant snowfall and how much more the crust might decompose.
