Problem #1 Comments
2nd day in a row that we were able to get persistent slab avalanches on steep NE facing slopes that have previously avalanched. The culprit weak layer is a thin layer of facets that I think were formed Feb2-3 and buried Feb 4. This layer is widespread...but it's strength and reactivity varies widely. Commonality to recent avalanches has been that they are in terrain that has not been skied this year, has previously avalanched, and was wind loaded by strong to extreme westerly winds from out past two storm events.
