Comments
Skied the terrain behind the Boundary Creek Yurt 1/3 - 1/5. Conditions were clear and calm Friday 1/3 and a pit dug not far above the yurt showed a mostly right-side up snowpack except for the clear faceted layer at the ground. We were unable to trigger the faceted layer in testing apart from prying on it from the back. A pit dug higher on the slope (~9900 ft) produced mostly similar results except that the snowpack was shallower (~80 cm) due to wind transport and the faceted layer was closer to the surface. We were still unable to trigger the faceted layer in the higher pit.
The wind picked up the evening of 1/3 and remained until we left on 1/5. Wind skins around 1-2 inches deep were encountered on much of the slope. Did not ski the more exposed terrain higher up the slope or the north facing slope leading into the gully bu I'd expect wind slabs to be prevalent there as the wind was transporting snow to the north.
