Poor Snowpack Structure
Red Flags Comments
Snow surface is an interesting mix of ultra-light pow, NSF, and growing SH.... and that's resting on a shallow, weak, layered snowpack

Increasing Danger
Problem #1 Comments
Persistent, early season weak layers will get tricky, especially if the mid week storm materializes with some wind and water weight.
Dig down a little and I found the snow structure isn't quite the weak, sugary gong show I thought it might be, given the shallow snow and recent cold temps. As a matter of fact, I found several heat crust sandwiches that helped give the pack a little bit of body. Good news to keep you off the ground.... bad news because once this weeks storms start stacking up, the crusts will allow our weak pack to sustain more of a load before failing, potentially creating a larger slide than you might expect.
Comments
I looked at upper elevation north facing terrain in BCC which still offers a lot of anchors poking through the snow and will need many storms to bury them. However, I bet contiguous, connected patches of snow will come to life with this weeks series of storms.
It's gonna get stormy and I'm not totally stoked with the snowpack structure on shady slopes.
Exit strategy looks like switching to the other half of the compass, and sticking with south facing terrain which has hardly any old snow
