Travel was up Beartrap fork to the Aspens. Wind was light but gusting decently and moving some snow. Light graupel falling at times. PI picked up around 8:30 and was consistent all the way down canyon.
No cracking noted while putting in the skin track up to the aspens. Dug a quick pit at 8900 feet facing west/northwest. About a foot of fresh snow with a small wind-layer on top. Nothing too concerning yet. The new snow seems to have bonded well to the very wet layer of slush underneath at this elevation. I was surprised at how wet it was under the new snow. The forecasters nailed it with concern about 72 hours without a refreeze.
The woo-boys were out as well. Perhaps we need another reminder that woos and shouts are reserved for emergency situations in the backcountry. If you must woo, woo at one of our amazing resorts!
