Problem #1 Comments
At 8,000 feet east facing we observed a test slope that failed on graupel on top of a crust about 18” down. Later in the day someone sidehilled a steel slope just below this test slope, over a deep terrain trap, and it also released at the same layer, the rider was lucky to ride it out. These riders were not in our group. At this elevation there were multiple crusts and graupel layers in the top meter of snow, not good structure.
At higher elevations (9,500’) and a bit further south the storm snow had better structure, no crusts, and rode well. We stayed in low angle terrain, but observed dry loose activity on steep E-NE slopes.
