I got out this afternoon and found really great riding and turning conditions up high. On Sunday I dug above this line I've been watching all season and to my surprise I found 240 cm of snow on this WNW facing slope above 10K. After letting the snow settle for a few days I finally got on it today. The snow pack on this WNW facing slope was really solid with a sluff on each line that just didn't want to run anywhere. In wind effected terrain I found a 1 cm think skin that easily failed but I wasn't in any terrain where it would have been an issue. In bigger wind effected terrain I expect wind skins will easily fail and run but will likely be manageable. I am continuing to stay away from any open, corniced and wind loaded north through east terrain above 20 degrees and instead when looking for north through east terrain have headed out to treed terrain with lots of anchors. With the deep snow pack much of the treed terrain is skiing very well unlike most years where deadfall is a major obstacle.
