Comments
Went up to Ivory Flakes today to get an idea of what happened during the storm, made our first stop on a run off of E facing Kessler, the slope had slide early on during the storm but due to high winds and wind loading up in the starting zone we bailed 2/3 of the way up. Then made our way to Ivory, right below the mine at the bottom we ran into an old avalanche that came off the W facing and ran all the way to the creek bed, snapping some good sized trees on its way. Once we got to the base of Ivory Flakes we realized that the avalanche that came off the Ivory Slabs had run huge! All the way down to the summer road where the large stands of pines marks the end of its historic path. It left small trees scattered on the low angle slope below, and left snow plastered 20ft up the large pines at the bottom, by the road.
Photos: the avalanche off the W facing by the mine, some shots of the 6 ft deep crown and the track of the Ivory slabs slide, wind loading on Kessler which made us take note and more wind loading in Cardiac Bowl
The amount of wind loading today keeps me still thinking considerable
