Comments
Today was sunny, calm, and a wonderful day to be out in the Ogden mountains.
I was only able to spot one small debris pile on the Ben Lomond headwall, probably 800' below the summit. It is hard to make out in the photo (#1), but I circled it to help.
There was widespread surface hoar above 6500', anywhere that still held soft snow on the surface. I dont anticipate this being a problem in most places if it warms up as much as it is supposed to over the next few days, but I attached photos to illustrate (#2&3).
I had a hand shear fail surprisingly easily under the rime crust referenced by Bill Brandt and Lee Fortin. Sudden planar, about 15 cm's down on a north facing slope at the Weather Station.
PSA - please don't ski close to the weather station! There are two tracks (buried under the 3-4 inches of the newest snow) that go directly under the height of snow sensor on the Ben Lomond Peak weather station. Now that the fence is mostly buried, there is no physical barrier to prevent this.
