Comments
The main take aways from Sunday’s tour which included Cardiac Ridge E-NE facing, Cardiac Bowl N facing 11,000ft, and N facing Cardiff Peak 10200ft, was as follows 1- the crusts are not breaking down very much in the terrain covered. 2-the top 5-6 six inches on the surface is completely faceted and new snow will not bond well. 3-the combination of a faceted surface and a slick bed surface underlying it will lead to avalanches when we receive a new load. 4-the crust will make things more complicated, any step down to the large grain facets under the crust from a surface slide will lead to larger and more connected avalanches. At least the S facing is mostly dirt at this time. The only activity noted was surface sluffing of the new snow on the loose facets at the top of the pack, a hint of things to come?
