Forecast for the Skyline Area Mountains

The majority of the terrain along the Skyline has a LOW avalanche danger. However, a CONSIDERABLE danger still exists in the higher northwest through east facing steep slopes. This means human triggered avalanches are still likely and cautious route finding is essential.

Straight talk: Conditions are still scary enough for me to shy away from many of the north through east facing big steep slopes. I'm feeling more comfortable in that I don't think it is very likely to trigger an avalanche from below a slope. I'm just not willing hit the big stuff like I want to.

Weather and Snow

OK people! It looks like we've most likely passed the most dangerous period for human triggered avalanches that we'll see this season. That doesn't mean that we can go out and just punch any slope we want to like last spring. Lots of things can still happen and it's all dependent on what the weather does. My current thinking is that as the newest snow settles into the existing snowpack, human triggered avalanches are going to be quite a bit more stubborn to release. That said, I'm not really changing my habits and I'll continue to avoid many of my favorite big steep slopes because I don't completely trust the snowpack.

Wednesday: A chance of snow before noon, then a chance of snow showers after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 39. South southwest wind 9 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Wednesday Night: A 50 percent chance of snow, mainly after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. Southwest wind around 10 mph becoming south southeast after midnight. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Thursday: Snow. High near 40. South southeast wind around 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
Thursday Night: Snow. Low around 29. Southwest wind 17 to 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
Friday: Snow. High near 34. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Friday Night: A 20 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23.
Saturday: A slight chance of snow. Mostly sunny, with a high near 34.
