Forecast for the Salt Lake Area Mountains
Thursday, March 8, 2018
Today's MODERATE DANGER is two-fold:
- Lower probability but high consequence human triggered slides 2-4' deep and a couple hundred feet wide on west to north to southeast facing slopes at the mid and upper elevations. These are more pronounced outside of the upper Cottonwoods but if triggered they will likely be unsurvivable.
- Higher probability but more manageable and predictable wet avalanches on the steep sunlit slopes and lower elevation shady slopes with daytime heating. These can still be large enough to bury you, especially if you're dumped into a terrain trap.
ROOF-ALANCHES are likely and have resulted in fatalities in years past.
SAFE and EXCELLENT riding conditions can be found on low angle northerly terrain with no overhead hazard.
