Forecast for the Skyline Area Mountains

Wednesday morning, February 21, 2018
The avalanche danger is CONSIDERABLE today on steep slopes that face west and especially north and east above about 9500'. Human triggered avalanches are likely in this terrain. With a nice day today it will be easy to get wrapped up in the euphoria of the good snow and forget about the avalanche danger.

Persistent Weak Layer

Description
I'm finding that the deeper areas along the Skyline are starting to gain some strength and are more supportable in more areas. However, the weak snow from earlier this season is still there and is very slow to gain strength. Shallow areas remain punchy and unsupportable with very loose snow deeper in the pack. A skier reported they experienced a large collapse of this weak snow on Tuesday in the Electric Lake area. This buried weak snow should not be trusted.
