Problem #1 Comments
Upon leaving the main cardiff skin track and ascending the east side of the powerline ridge, there was consistent cracking and collapsing. After one large collapse, I decided to do a quick compression test on a NW 21 degree slope at 9250'. The column fractured after two taps from the wrist 32 cm down on the same facet layer we keep hearing about. It is worth noting that this occurred in a part of the slope that didn't appear to have seen much traffic prior to the new snow. In areas with old tracks, there were far fewer collapses. Sparknotes: Northerly slopes that haven't seen much traffic are touchy and will continue to be increasingly so with the coming storm.
