There was a thick layer of large graupel below a 3 inch slab form about 8500 to 9500 feet.

Comments
At 9500 feet I triggered a crack that probably could have been an avalanche spanning the 20 feet across the entire couloir. Thankfully after I sidestepped and stuck to a more rocky route for a bit, it did not give way.
