Snow Characteristics Comments

Turning and riding amazing on upper elevation northerly facing slopes. Other aspects quite good, especially on lower angle slopes, so you're not hitting old crusts.

Comments

Pit below - northeast facing, 9,200'. I was looking for the early March graupel, and not expecting so many crusts. Lots of shears on various layers, but no results with ECT tests.

Occasional gusts wind still drifting some snow. Kicking small, soft cornices released small, new snow sluffs. You'll need a rope or cord to drop a decent size, denser old snow cornice in many locations.

Pit north facing, around 9600'. Again, a layered upper snow pack, but no results with ECT tests. The early March graupel was much smaller (1-2mm) than what I saw in upper Cardiff on Sunday. Still a bit suspicious that it's so loose after a whole week.

Seems like we're moving toward's stability, especially out of the wind affected terrain. Wind drifts may remain sensitive for another day, especially with the forecast speeds. Dry loose sluffs on steep slopes, may actually run further on steep E - S - W, where there are slick crusts beneath.

And sun with warming temperatures on Wednesday or Thursday will trigger the usual round of wet loose sluffs.
