Snow Characteristics Comments

Variable ski surface with a few inches of fluff atop yesterday's variable thickness Rime/ Freezing Rain Crust and underlying recent light density accumulations. In S-SE facing terrain, crust was 2-3cm in thickness and not consistently supportive. Crust seemed a tad more robust in terrain with a Westerly component.

Comments

This a zone which had not (old snow) avalanched during the Christmas cycle. From the look of it, mid/ basal layers not likely to be of concern until the spring thaw. The 26 Dec weakness underlying the New Years wind pressed crust was thin and pretty subtle- only noticeable with shovel tests and seems to be gaining strength. Will have to see how the most recent crust/ HST reacts to future loading.
