Red Flags Comments
Artillery triggered avalanche on toledo se face is a major in your face red flag for skiing altas south facing terrain. Large drifts from this weeks storm have pillowed behind tree and terrain features. Shallow locations around trees and rocks harbor weak faceted snow. Several of these spots have been loaded with several feet of new snow, while many remain shallow. No cracking or collapsing in these scary locations.
Once on the ridge, the north wind was stronger than anticipated. Cornices and small wind slabs existed at the crest which cracked and fell apart when provoked. Wind had not been blowing hard/long enough to produce any appreciable areas of effected snow, yet I would be suspicious of steep slopes near the ridge come morning.
It looked as if many of the north facing slopes in Upper Days slid to the ground while some still hang in the balance, waiting for a trigger.

Persistent Weak Layer
Trend
Decreasing Danger
Problem #1 Comments
No pit so only assumptions. Concerning and frustrating that the early season featured no snow, and no sun to melt out the old snow. Window of south facing terrain with/without persistent slab problem is uncertain. time to do some digging
Avalanche Problem #2
Problem
Wind Drifted Snow
Trend
Increasing Danger
Problem #2 Comments
watch out on steep south facing uppermost elevation terrain as winds increase from the north, there are several inches of low density snow to move around. slabs from previous wet/windy period are stubborn and stablizing (per others observations) but are punchy/upside down and it wouldn't surprise me to see these fail on the rime crust not too far below on steeper slopes.
Comments
skiing was okay but really not worth the risk to push angles yet. You had to ski lightly to not get caught up in the upside down snow below the low density fluff. Low angles provided the best skiing. I hope people are careful this weekend.
