Snow Characteristics Comments

Shallow to none and very bushy.... I found some areas with an inch or so of powder on a couple inches of nice soft re-crystallized with a dense and fairly solid old snow base. But, very shallow snow conditions at low and mid elevations called for a boot descent, with ankle-deep or shallower snow on the rocky trail.

Problem #1 Comments

Might have been some fresh wind slabs in exposed terrain up high, but the bushy terrain on approach will probably keep most folks out trouble in the Wellsville Mountain Wilderness for a while. I could see drifting snow up high and hear howling winds from time to time.

Comments

Still very shallow snow conditions in the Wellsville Range. Access to upper elevations is hampered by lack of coverage and lots of bushes...

More views of the shallow coverage.... Only a couple inches of coverage at the Coldwater Lake wilderness sign...

View of Logan Peak and Providence town from the west, showing no snow at lower elevations...
