Snow Characteristics Comments

right side up dense snow well bonded just as you would expect with the warm storm. cornices have another new layer and are getting large in some places, new more sensitive wind slabs likely, manageable, but warm temps will strengthen them quickly. Tomorrows sun and heating up will raise hazard on first east, the south facing slopes, snow was damp to start with even early in the morning, and got wetter as the day went on from daytime heating despite the lack of constant solar radiation.

Since we had dug full depth pit in this area last week, we were confident that overall the thicker pack is continuing to gain strength and only did hand pits in multiple areas to check upper layer.

on our exit out down in the more sheltered N facing timber, temp crust was just beneath new snow likely from greenhouse heating

new snow wind slabs most sensitive today, well be more stubborn by tomorrow, easy to identify and manage wet slides with heating tomorrow will be active on steep east, south, then west slopes with March sun.

Problem #1 Comments

new snow activity will diminish with time, still cannot ignore the possibility of triggering deep slab from shallow, rocky points and was still enough to keep us away from the extreme terrain. at least a week has gone by without any activity we could see.

Comments

Visibility was pretty low at summit on drive over this morning

Skiing is getting very good, access is easier, and weather gave us good windows of visibility

not much new snow really accumulated during the day

total stick looking good going into March
