The day started like a classic Wasatch backcountry day with fresh snow and lots of people stoked to head into the mountains. I saw lots of familiar faces today. We have such an amazing backcountry community!!!

Overview photo of Superior with the avalanche in Cardiff bowl visible.

Lenticular cloud over Alta ski area. Larry Dunn head meteorologist at the National Weather Service Center explained lenticular clouds to me one day as " They are simply strong winds flowing over terrain features, it forms waves like in a river, air cools as it rises to a wave crest, then forms a cloud like a standing wave."

Strong winds out of the southwest were bothersome on the exposed ridges today.
