Snow Characteristics Comments

Only real snow on the PC Ridgeline is on the high north facing, such as West and South Monitor. Any slope with much of a tilt east or west has a fairly stout melt freeze crust, the north facing is 8-10 inches deep and fully faceted to the ground.

Comments

Went to take a look at the Monitors on the Park City Ridgeline before the forecasted storm arrives this weekend, to see the coverage and the condition of the old snow on the north facing. There was a little more snow in both bowls than I was expecting, The due north was 8 to 10 inches in depth, faceted to the ground and coverage extended all the way to the flats on the north, when the aspect turned a bit more east the snow was about 4 to 6 inches in depth with a stout melt freeze crust on it, more east less snow. Photos, pit in West Monitor N facing, 60ft of the ridge, pit location, skiers right side of West Monitor, faceted snow connected all the way down to the flats on the north facing, melt freeze crust on the aspects with more east in them. Also a little video showing the weakness of the snow in the starting zone of West Monitor.

Did not note anything alarming in the Monitors, luckily they are not holding much snow, there are however a few places that I would avoid if we get a large dose of new snow, or any slab formation, those booby traps would obviously be on the due north were I was digging my holes. Always feel better if I have a look at what the new snow is going to be sitting on, dirt and crust will work if we get a significant amount of snow. Photos coverage on West Willow Ridgeline, Reynolds NE face, Wilson Chutes- MacDonalds, and Dutches Draw- Meadow chutes- South Monitor- Pano of the north facing in BBC.

FORECASTER NOTE: Excellent observation Mark, very well put. -Kobernik
