Quick dawn patrol in upper LCC skiing into Silver Fork and then back out to Alta. It appears there was about 10 cms (4") new overnight with very light-density snow at the surface. Snow that looked more like a December storm, not something from April. The biggest difference I noted between Tuesday and Wednesday mornings was that there was no wind on Tuesday morning, yet the winds had picked up along the ridgelines by Wednesday morning, apparently blowing NE through NW. I was finding some sensitive wind pockets on leeward aspects primarily along upper elevation ridgelines.Thicknesses were mostly in the 15 cm (6") range, although some drifts were approaching 30 cms. Some fresh cornices on SE through SW aspects. I was expecting the snow to sluff easily, but ski cuts on steep aspects would only produce minor sluffing at best. Saw lots of fresh tracks throughout upper LCC this morning - nice to see that others are still thinking skiing as well. Mostly Low danger with Moderate hazard related to any recent wind loading. But wind drifts are easy to identify and quite manageable. If the sun comes out it's a totally different story.
Oh yes, the skiing is superb with soft snow on all aspects.
