Snow Characteristics Comments

New snow consisted of mainly graupel, still inverted but not as much as yesterday, more settlement needed. Did not really note a rime crust, but it was quite extensive in the trees.

Went back to the PC Ridgeline to see what I could not yesterday. Still poor visibility but not as bad. Went to West Monitor first, noted a natural avalanche in the middle of the bowl, 50 to 60ft wide running down to the flats, natural cornice drop was the trigger. Poor pics, flank of the slide, full slide, debris at bottom.

Continued across South Monitor with no visibility, then headed towards No Name Bowl, where I ran into Bruce Tremper He had just finished a pit and was heading back out. Upon talking he told me of a slide in South Monitor he had seen earlier, we teamed up and headed back in that direction. Got some decent vis and checked out the slide in South Monitor, he will give the dimensions on that one. Pics South Monitor.

After telling Bruce about the West Monitor slide he wanted to check it out. We had good vis when we got there so he decided to rope up and walk across a bit of hangfire to check the crown out mainly to see if it went into old snow or not. Upon inspection discovered it was new snow only. Cranked off some pics of what he does best, these guys work hard for their money, enjoyed talking with him about the conditions. One of the pics show Bruce standing under a cornice with continued snow transport into the bowl. rest of the pics, traversing the hangfire, digging into the crown face, and documenting with photos.

I'm sure Bruce has some better pics, I'm still a rookie with a camera. Still think Patience and Settlement are the key to stability, slopes definitely need a trigger to slide such as a cornice drop or a unlucky rider. Good running into you Bruce. Did get one good pic of rimming in the pines.
