Snow Characteristics Comments

Bit of a crust and upsideside down, heavy-ish. Just wanted to comment that the snow wasn't moving. No cracking, collapsing, cornices hard to get going, effected nothing. Snow was stable, but I wasn't really sticking my neck out.

FORECASTER NOTE: When you are in appropriate terrain like this observer apparently was (ie low angle sheltered terrain) you will not note the more obvious signs of instability like you might in more wind exposed terrain. Crust was most likely rime and upside down snow was higher density new snow perhaps coupled with light winds at this location. These conditions combined with pre-existing weak snow was nothing to toy with today. Kobernik
