Snow Characteristics Comments
These are general comments submitted by Brian Pollick by Bruce Tremper because we still have bugs in our new website for submitting observations: Overnight temperature dropped to about 12 degrees with light winds from the north. Finding anywhere from 2-3' of snow depending on elevation and aspect, things have settled out nicely since yesterday. Current snowpack structure looks great with about 12" of 4F hardness topped by 12-24" of F along with 6mm surface hoar on northerly aspects. Found some evidence of wind loading, but could not provoke anything to move. No propagation on ECT, just some cracking at the 4F/F hardness interface. Greatest concern right now is what effect this snow will have in the future, have we just been setup for another interesting season? I also attached some photos of the usual suspects (ie: surface hoar) & wind effect on an exposed ridge.
