Avalanche Advisory
Advisory: Skyline Area Mountains Issued by Brett Kobernik for Friday - January 19, 2018 - 6:58am
bottom line

The avalanche danger is MODERATE today. Anticipate the avalanche danger to increase this weekend as a storm moves through adding snow. This doesn't look like a huge storm but with the very weak snow near the ground, any additional snow added on top is cause for concern. The danger will most likely be CONSIDERABLE on Saturday and perhaps Sunday.

current conditions

The snowpack has relaxed to a certain extent over the last few days. It's been over a week since we've added any new snow and the chance for triggering avalanches has been decreasing. However, my partners and I have experienced significant collapsing of the snowpack underneath us every day this week. The weak faceted sugary snow is still present near the ground and will be an issue once we add another significant load of snow.
