Avalanche Advisory
Advisory: Skyline Area Mountains Issued by Brett Kobernik for Thursday - February 23, 2017 - 6:56am
bottom line

The overall avalanche danger is MODERATE today. The danger is more pronounced on high elevation east facing slopes where wind has been and will continue to deposit snow into fresh drifts and slabs. Human triggered avalanches are likely and natural avalanches are possible in the wind effected terrain. If you avoid wind loaded areas today, you will have no problems with avalanches.

current conditions

The Manti Skyline picked up about 8 inches of snow in the last 24 hours. Temperatures dropped down to about 10˚F overnight. Wind speeds are moderate along the ridges from the west. I thought the riding conditions were quite nice yesterday and with another 8 inches of cold powder, they should be excellent today.

Your main avalanche concern today will involve only the new snow and any fresh drifts that have formed. The most dangerous areas will be on high elevation east facing slopes especially right below the ridgelines.

weather

The majority of the snow from this storm has already fallen but the storm will linger into Friday. We might see a few periods of snow again today with a trace to a couple of inches possible. Wind will be a bit gusty along the ridges from the west. Mountain high temperatues will get into the mid to upper teens. A few more inches of snow is possible tonight and into Friday.
