Avalanche Advisory
Advisory: Skyline Area Mountains Issued by Brett Kobernik for Sunday - March 13, 2016 - 6:44am
bottom line

Most terrain has a LOW avalanche danger today. Watch for minor wind slabs that might crack on the higher east facing steep slopes. Consider consequences if you trigger even a small slide in unforgiving terrain.

current conditions

Riding conditions might not be as good as it gets right now but travel conditions are excellent. The snowpack is supportable and consolidated almost everywhere allowing riders to go most anywhere and travel long distances. A few flakes fell out of the sky on Saturday with no accumulations. Skies were clear overnight and ridgetop temperatures were around freezing. Wind is fairly light out of the southwest.

Below is a wrap up of snow and avalanche info from this week and what to expect with the upcoming storm:

description

If you hunt around, you probably could find a small wind slab that might release on the very steepest upper easterly facing slopes. Even though the avalanche danger is fairly LOW, continue to follow all the normal backcountry protocols. Make sure only one person is on a steep slope at a time and clear the run-out zones at the bottom.

weather

Today we'll see increasing high clouds and increasing southwest wind with fairly mild ridgetop temperatures in the upper 30s to around 40. A windy and colder storm will move through starting Monday with unsettled weather lingering through Tuesday. Hopefully we'll pick up 4 to 6 inches of snow by sometime on Tuesday.
