Avalanche Advisory
Advisory: Skyline Area Mountains Issued by Brett Kobernik for Saturday - November 28, 2015 - 6:34am
bottom line

There is generally a LOW avalanche danger today. Be aware that any bump in wind speed will increase the avalanche danger. Watch for any drifting snow and any cracking in the snow as you travel which indicates the presence of sensitive wind slabs that might release on steep slopes.

current conditions

We have very light snowfall this morning. Temperatures remain fairly cold with most stations right around 10 degrees. Wind speeds have been calm to light. A few more inches of snow fell late Friday and into Friday night. Overall, we are up to 6 or 8 inches of new snow out of this slow moving storm.

recent activity

I did not observe any avalanche activity when I was out in the mountains on Friday. No avalanche activity was reported.

Here are some details from my fieldwork on Friday.

description

The new snow from our current storm has not increased the avalanche danger. If the wind increases, this new low density powder will easily get blown into drifts that might be sensitive to people. It doesn't look like the winds will increase today but be on the look out if you notice any significant wind or drifting snow.

weather

We should see clouds and light snowfall at times today. Not much accumulation is anticipated. Temperatures will reach the upper teens during the day. Winds are supposed to stay fairly light. This very slow moving storm will produce clouds and the chance for a few more inches of snow on Sunday. We'll see high pressure during the week with another storm shaping up for next weekend.
