Early Winter Update

It's November.  USAW is over, the first layer of the season's snow pack is now on the ground, and it's the end of daylight savings - it all adds up to the beginning of winter.  And while there isn't enough snow for much winter recreation yet, there is plenty to do to get prepared for the season.  The entire UAC staff is back to work full time, and below are some ideas to help you get prepared.

Weather - it's time to start keeping track of the snow on the ground and current and future weather.  My favorite one stop shopping is the NWS Snow and Avalanche page, and even a casual glance every few days will keep you up-to-date on the general early season pattern.

Avalanche Safety gear - pull it out, dust it off and start to practice.  Check the batteries, send and receive functions on your beacon.  Put your probe together.  Thinking of up grading your beacon?  Check out Beacon Reviews for info.

Start checking out avalanche education options - the UAC and most of the local avalanche education providers already have their class dates posted on our Education page.

USAW was another great success - a huge thanks to our sponsors, speakers, everyone who attended and all the volunteers who helped pull it together.  It was a great day of education, learning and networking.

To everyone who lives, works, or plays on the Wasatch Back: Friday, Nov 7, is Live PC Give PC, a day to celebrate all that non-profit organizations do to improve the quality of life in and around Park City.  This is a great time to show your gratitude and support by giving to those organizations that make your life a little better.  White Pine Touring will be hosting a reception for the Utah Avalanche Center and Mountain Trails Foundation from 5 to 7 pm with beer from Uinta Brewing and pizza from Red Bicycle Bread.  We'll be there to chat and give you the secret powder and avalanche beta for this season.  Stop by and say hi!

We'll be updated our forecast intermittently, as weather of interest arrives.  Looking forward to a wonderful, snowy, and safe winter.
