Danger Rose Tutorial

Pockets of a CONSIDERABLE avalanche danger remain in those steep upper elevation northerly slopes. Most seasoned backcountry travelers continue to avoid this type of terrain. The potential for dangerous avalanches remains a distinct possibility in this terrain.

CURRENT CONDITIONS

By far, the most interesting portion of compiling this forecast this morning was looking at the temperature inversions in the mountains. (SUPER EXCITING DETAILS!!) This might give you a clue about the excitement level of this forecast. Anyway, temperatures are warmer at the upper elevations then the lower elevations. We have upper 20s to low 30s in the higher terrain and low 20s or even into the teens in the lower terrain. Winds are light and mostly from the west.

THREAT #1

WHERE PROBABILITY SIZE TREND
      Over the next 24 hours.

Your biggest concern today is triggering an avalanche in the upper elevation northerly terrain where a weak layer near the ground still remains. We are perhaps moving into situation where the chances of triggering something is becoming more unlikely but the consequences are still high.

MOUNTAIN WEATHER

We’ll have high thin clouds and mild temperatures with light westerly winds today. A cold front moves through on Monday but won’t do much more then produce a few clouds, cool temperatures a bit and increase wind speeds slightly. The next lame chance for snow is Thursday but I don’t see this system doing much at all for us as it sits right now.
