Danger Rose Tutorial

The avalanche danger is generally LOW.

CURRENT CONDITIONS

It's another chilly Sunday morning with temperatures in the low teens at most locations and some dipping into the single digits. Winds have behaved over the last 24 hours averaging 5 to 10 mph with gusts less then 30 along the highest peaks. There was a light dusting of snow on Saturday.

RECENT ACTIVITY

With no new snow and hardly enough to scratch around on, there's not much to talk about unless watching facets grow puts you on the edge of your seat. Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate those deranged characters who get off on a good temperature profile data set or who can hardly contain themselves while measuring creep rates. If you're one of those types it looks like this weeks weather is going to be ripe for such activities.

THREAT #1

WHERE PROBABILITY SIZE TREND
      Over the next 24 hours.

You may be able to find a few minor wind slabs that you could get to crack if you really try. The avalanche danger may rise slightly overnight if the anticipated storm produces any snow.

MOUNTAIN WEATHER

We'll see increasing clouds in head of a quick hitting storm that will move through this evening. Ridgetop temperatures will warm into the 20s and southwest winds will increase in speed during the day before switching to the northwest with the frontal passage this evening. We should see a few inches of snow with this system and it could produce 4 to 6 inches in favored locations. This system does bring fairly cold air with it. It looks as if a significant ridge will move in for most of the week with temperatures gradually warming through Friday. What slightly resembles a trof may effect us next weekend. Stay tuned.
