This is Brett Kobernik with the Utah Avalanche Center.  Today is October 10th.

We will start issuing avalanche advisories around the first of November or when there is sufficient snow cover.  In the mean time, you can monitor the mountain conditions by looking at the automated weather stations on the Internet.  The Collins station is currently operating.  Also check out the National Weather Service web site for other weather forecasting products (http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/slc/).

Another project we are working on is seasonal weather history charts for the web.  Check it out HERE.  We will start these charts in November.

A big thank you is necesary to everyone who attended the fundraising party in September at Black Diamond.  It was a very successful event.

The next event is The Friends of the Utah Avalanche Center’s annual backcountry gear swap which will be held on Saturday, November 5th at R.E.I.  (Information)  Gear can be dropped of on November 3rd and 4th from 6 to 8 pm.

Thanks again, and we will see you again in November.
