We will start issuing avalanche advisories around the first of November or whenevery it snows.  In the mean time, don’t forget about a couple of upcoming events:

First, the employees of Black Diamond will host their 12th annual fundraising dinner on Thursday, September 22nd at the Black Diamond store.  It is always the best party of the fall and each year several hundred people show up for a great dinner, a silent auction, live music and raffles.  It’s always a great place to catch up with all your winter friends after a long summer.  Click HERE for more information.

Second, the annual backcountry gear swap will occur again at REI.  The date has not been set yet, but it usually happens in the first week of November.

In the mean time, you can monitor the mountain conditions by looking at the
automated weather stations on the Internet.  Luckily, Alta will leave Collins study plot operating year round.

For weather forecasts, visit the excellent National Weather Service web site at: http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/slc/.
For weather computer models, I like Penn State’s site at: http://www.meteo.psu.edu/~gadomski/ewall.html

Thanks, and we will see you again in November.
