current conditions Skies are mostly cloudy. Winds are southwesterly, blowing 25mph with gusts to 35. Mid-elevation wind sites have gusts to 30. Temperatures are in the mid to upper 40s. Snow surface conditions remain mostly supportable although the heat is taking its toll. Still, snow depths in protected northerly terrain sit at 80-85". |
recent activity Natural and human triggered cornice fall with an apparently very close call Sunday in the Logan area mountains. Check the Logan advisory for details. |
weather We'll have mostly cloudy skies, moderate southwest winds, and daytime highs reaching into the low 40s along the ridgelines and to near 60°F at 8500'. We'll have a weak cold front tonight but not before another potential shot of lightning and thunder accompanied by a rain/hail mix. A warm and windy storm on a southerly flow will embrace the state Wednesday evening into Thursday. It looks to have good mid and upper level dynamics accompanying the storm and a foot of snow may be expected in the higher elevations. The rain/snow line perhaps initially starts above 8000'...dropping to 7000' by Thursday as the flow shifts from southerly to west/northwest. Wind may be a factor in the post frontal environment. We get a quick break Friday ahead of the next system on Saturday into Sunday. Weather models suggest a continued active pattern to finish March as a lion. |
