Moab Avalanche Advisory

Forecaster: Max Forgensi

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

The Special Announcement is for the time period between Saturday February 25th and Wednesday February 29th.

Spring is on the way to southeast Utah, but is not quite here. Strong winds will continue to affect the region for the next 48 hours followed by a storm system. These winds have already produced large avalanches in the past 48 hours. Large wind slabs are present at and above tree line. Click HEREto see the details of an avalanche fatality that occurred in the Park City Area on February 23rd. Wind slab overlying buried weak layers....

There are plenty of opportunities for safe recreation in the mountains. LUNA groomed the entire track yesterday and all roads to the trail heads are clear thanks to the hard work of the San Juan County Road department.

This forecast will be updated on March 1st. Any observations would be greatly appreciated to assist me while I am out of the area. Thank you!
