Logan Avalanche Advisory

Forecaster: Toby Weed

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

We hope you can join us for the 4th annual Utah Snow and Avalanche Workshop at the Depot in Salt Lake City from 1 to 5 pm on Saturday, November 5. (tomorrow)

CURRENT CONDITIONS

You'll find very shallow yet mostly solid October snow on north facing slopes above around 8500', but coverage is quite thin and you should expect to also find rocks. We found the Tony Grove Road easily traveled yesterday, with only a short section of ice in the shade. But, remember that the road is not maintained for wheeled vehicles in the winter, and driving conditions are likely to rapidly deteriorate in a storm....

RECENT ACTIVITY

We triggered surface cracking and a couple very small and manageable wind slabs yesterday in steep terrain.... Not much of a concern yet, but slabs forming on weak sugary snow just above the solid October base are likely to present some danger in the near future.....

MOUNTAIN WEATHER

The National Weather Service is calling for snow and has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Utah mountains starting this evening and continuing through early Saturday. Looks like 6 to 10 inches could accumulate at higher elevations in our area.... Expect strong southerly winds and mild temperatures today in advance of the storm....

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

We're back in the office and we'll start issuing regular advisories when more snow falls in the mountains around Logan.......
