Logan Avalanche Advisory

Forecaster: Toby Weed

CURRENT CONDITIONS

This week's warm temperatures and sunshine are melting off sunny slopes, but the remaining upper elevation snow is dense enough to keep you up off the rocks in shady areas with smooth underlying ground...

Most of the snow has melted off the Tony Grove Road, but keep in mind that the road is not maintained for wheeled vehicles in the winter. Expect patches of ice, and rapidly deteriorating conditions are likely with the incoming storm....

RECENT ACTIVITY

No recent avalanche activity has been observed in the Logan Area, and the shallow snowpack at upper elevations is fairly dense and supportable... I have noticed deterioration or faceting in the surface snow on shady slopes, and with snow and stormy conditions now in the forecast, avalanche danger will likely become an issue soon...

Its a good idea to practice with your rescue equipment in the preseason..... One fun way to practice is by combining simple beacon searches with the seasonal chore of raking the lawn...

MOUNTAIN WEATHER

Expect a somewhat weak system to impact the region over the weekend, with a more productive pattern developing early next week..
