Danger Rose Tutorial

There is a LOW avalanche danger in the backcountry and avalanches are unlikely this weekend.  More relevant concerns include sliding on hard and slippery snow, uncontrolled falls on steep slopes, or hitting exposed rock.

CURRENT CONDITIONS

What snow remains is at high elevations, and with last night’s solid refreeze, will be quite solid and scratchy today.  Even south facing slopes stayed hard yesterday, and overnight winds and colder temperatures did little to affect the bullet-proof snow.

THREAT #1

WHERE PROBABILITY SIZE TREND
      Over the next 24 hours.

The remaining snow is now rock solid almost everywhere.  We'll need to monitor things when snow starts to fall again, as many avalanche starting zone are nicely filled in and smoothed out.  We'll have a nice sliding surface in place and avalanche conditions may quickly develop.

MOUNTAIN WEATHER

Another dry cold front will pass over the region over the weekend, but the moisture and energy will likely stay well to our north once again…Looks like our next chance for a real storm will hold of until around Thanksgiving Weekend.
