Logan Avalanche Advisory

Forecaster: Toby Weed

BOTTOM LINE

Danger by aspect and elevation on slopes approaching 35° or steeper.

Danger Rose Tutorial

There may be a few upper elevation slopes where small wind slabs could be triggered.  In most areas the snow is still to shallow for avalanches to occur and there is generally a LOW danger above around 8500'.

CURRENT CONDITIONS

Upper elevations in the Bear River Range picked up over a foot of snow in the last week.  There's just enough to allow you to get away with a few turns through the cone flowers on select smooth grassy slopes.

Hopefully more snow this weekend will add to the total on the ground and insulate the base layer.

RECENT ACTIVITY

There were some wind slab avalanches reported yesterday in the Central Wasatch Range, where lake effect snowfall dropped nearly 4' of snow.  None have been observed or reported locally.

MOUNTAIN WEATHER

A short-lived High Pressure system will develop over the region today and bring warmer temperatures for the first half of the weekend.  A cold front is expected sometime on Sunday, and snowfall in the mountains is a good bet.   The weather should stay unstable through early next week....

GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Friends of the Utah Avalanche Center in Logan will present the annual fund-raiser party at the Bullen Center on Friday, November 21st.  Proceeds will help support your local avalanche center, right here in Logan.  Hope to see you there.
