Intro to Splitboarding with The Chimera/Pallas and Prival Crews
Intro to Splitboarding and Backcountry Travel
This course is a one day 101 course experience. Whether you’re a seasoned backcountry adventurer, a side country slayer, or looking to get out on your first adventure, reviewing and testing your skills of the essential equipment is pivotal to returning from an escape to the mountains.
This course inludes a one hour video lecture prior to field session and two hours of companion resuce field work before touring with the Prival and Chimera/Pallas teams. Standing outside for the duration is required. Demo beacons, probes, and shovels and splitboards are available upon request.
After completing the rescue course we wil continue into the afternoon on an introduction to splitboarding with the Pallas and Chimera Crew. This is your chance to learn techiniques from the pros and try out a Pallas or Chimera splitboard.
Please note all courses include a $20 donation to go toward mountain education for a less fortunate community member.
Travel in the backcountry begins with a firm foundation in the theory and use of essential rescue/retrieval equipment. In the Prival Building Blocks course you begin with an overview of the following:
Terrain mitigation
How to use an avalanche forecast and weather observations to formulate backcountry travel plans
Hands on work with our instructors and trained professional athletes
Learning the theory and techniques for properly using an avalanche beacon, probe, and shovel
In a controlled environment, simulate single and multiple burial scenarios, learning how to efficiently and effectively locate and extract a buried victim
Remember in the event of an avalanche CPR and or first aid is almost always issued. Continuing your education into proper basic life support and advanced avalanche safety skills is a must. We look forward to helping you begin your quest for knowledge towards the backcountry avalanche chain of survival.
