On Thursday night you will be treated to three hours of video, slides and stories helping you to understand avalanche characteristics, snowpack fundamentals, clues to instability, terrain assessment, safe travel techniques and most importantly companion rescue techniques. Along with this, you will learn how to interface with, understand and apply the current avalanche advisory.

Spend an evening in a classroom and a day on the snow with the pros to learn how to get out in the backcountry, have fun and come home ready to do it again.

Know Before You Go is a free avalanche awareness program. Not much science, no warnings to stay out of the mountains, no formulas to memorize. In 1 hour, you will see the destructive power of avalanches, understand when and why they happen, and how you can have fun in the mountains and avoid avalanches.

Join the Utah Avalanche Center and avalanche professionals to hone your partner rescue skills, covering scene assessment, beacon searching, probing, strategic digging, and packaging and transporting an injured partner. This class is a great early- season refresher for experienced backcountry travelers.

Ladies Night brought to you by REI, OWA and the Utah Avalanche Center! Come kick off your winter backcountry adventures with a ladies-only Know Before You Go avalanche awareness event. Evelyn Lees, a Utah Avalanche Center backcountry avalanche forecaster, will give a presentation on awareness and staying alive in avalanche terrain, including a review of the AAI Backcountry check list for pre-trip planning, on-going tour assessment and post trip discussion. This is a great introduction or review of avalanche safety basics.
