Forecast for the Ogden Area Mountains

In most places this morning's new snow fell on dirt. Wind should increase from the north this afternoon and form some wind slabs. The danger is generally LOW and there is not enough snow to for skiiing.

We will continue to issue intermittent advisories as conditions warrant.

Alta Ski Area is currently closed to uphill traffic except the Albion Basin summer road which will remain open for access to Point Supreme.

Snowbird Ski Area is currently closed to uphill traffice. Public use is prohibited as avalanche control and slope preparation is in progress. Please check here for changes to the status

Remember, control work is not being done at the unopened ski areas, and that terrain must be treated as backcountry.

Weather and Snow

Snowfall started around midnight with 4-6 inches of snow as of 6 a.m. Winds decreased as snow started and were blowing 5 mph gusting 10 mph this morning. Winds were blowing from the south overnight but began shifting to the north this morning. Temperatures were in the low 20s F above 9000 ft. Very little snow covered the ground prior to this mornings snowfall, and in most places the snow fell dirt.

Winds are expected to increase this afternoon from the North this afternoon and the danger could rise depending on how much winds increase.

Additional Information

North winds and clouds should keep temperatures from rising out of the low 20s F today. Winds should increase today and blow 10-20 mph with gusts of 30 mph from the north. Snowfall should continue but only produce 3-5 inches of low density snow. The rest of the week should have mostly dry and windy weather.
